NEMONYMOUS A Megazanthus for Short Fiction In November 2001, NEMONYMOUS became the world's first ever anonymous print publication of fiction stories by different authors. It has received much significant praise since then for its on-going existence as a fiction collection and as a design masterpiece for a decade of noughts. For further information, please see: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/veils_and_piques/ nemonymous@hotmail.com for submission and ordering queries. "The nemo is an evolutionary force, as necessary as the ego. The ego is certainty, what I am; the nemo is potentiality, what I am not. But instead of utilizing the nemo as we would utilize any other force, we allow ourselves to be terrified by it, as primitive man was terrified by lightning. We run screaming from this mysterious shape in the middle of our town, even though the real terror is not in itself, but in our terror at it." -- John Fowles (from 'The Necessity of Nemo' in 'The Aristos') Original stories published in the numinous NEMONYMOUS: NEMONYMOUS PART ONE A Smile In The Sky by Gary Couzens The Friends of Mike Santini by Terry Gates-Grimwood The Quiet House by Allen Ashley With Arms Outstretched by Daniel Pearlman Breaking Rules by Avital Gad-Cykman The Gravedigger by Lawrence Dyer Alone by Shawn James The Idiot Whistled Dead by Simon Clark The Unmiraculous Life of Jackie Mendoza by Tamar Yellin Across The Hills by Tony Mileman All for Nothing by Rhys Hughes Double Zero For Emptiness by Mike O’Driscoll Strobe by Paul Kane Balafer De Vie by Lida Broadhurst The Mansions Of The Moon by Jeff VanderMeer Gamlingay Churchyard by A.D. Unlike the authors in Nemonymous~3 (who will have to wait for the course of time before they are denemonised) here are two early ones. The striking artwork on the cover of a gold coin in a moonlit forest is the work of JaNell Golden and below is her bio. I was so very thrilled when I first saw this image and it has grown on me ever since. +++++++++++++ "JaNell Golden is a freelance writer and artist born and living in Appalachia. She has poetry published at Gothic.net as well as Bare Bone 4 and the e-book "Julia, Daughter Of...". Her photography has appeared in Locus magazine. Comments on my work: I fluctuate between the written and visual mediums instinctively, working on whatever project I'm assigned or inspired by at the moment. A long interest in collage has influenced both my art and my writing; in both I try for a seamless, multi-layered work of brevity and clarity without losing the potentiality of mystery. There must be more, in writing and art, than just what is obviously stated. There must be unknowns, a reason to come back to that work again and again, to see fresh things each time. Mystery and duality allow room for the observer to participate in the process. Without that, there's no reason to go back; it has become, simply, information that you've already acquired. Comments on Nemonymous, and the Nemonymous 3 cover art: Nemonymous is an incredible idea, one that I strongly believe in. I can visualize someone reading it and being surprised that their least favorite story was by an author they'd gotten into the habit of reading, someone who perhaps actually no longer interests them. Readers will re-evaluate their motivations for their reading choices. Nemonymous allows new authors to have some sunlight in a way that no other magazine, to my knowledge, does. I was skeptical, at first, at Mr. Lewis' criteria for the cover art of Nemonymous 3. How could I use them to create a sense of mystery? The parameters forced me to do work unlike any I've done before, and I'm very proud of the result. I enjoyed the whole process so much that I'm now actively seeking more illustrative work of this kind." ++++++++++++++ The cover design, internal design (based on my criteria of stories being back-to-back for which I take full credit or blame!), typesetting and printing were all carried out perfectly by Andy Cox of TTA Press (www.ttapress.com) Many thanks to them both.
