Larry -- Necon was great! We plan on getting back next year, too. I love everything by the 'Mats, but especially PLEASED TO MEET ME. I still listen to that album a couple of times a week (at least). But for some reason Westerberg's 14 SONGS really works for me as writing music -- first thing in the morning I play "Knocking on Mine," "First Glimmer," "Dice Behind Your Shades." There's also a beautiful song on the ALL FOR NOTHING/NOTHING FOR ALL collection, called "We Know the Night" -- really lovely and I think previously unreleased. But TIM is brilliant, the last two Replacements albums are great, and PW's STEREO/MONO was good, too. The only band you'll ever need! (Just for the record, I do listen to a lot of other stuff.) |

I'm going to attend next year too, since Readercon won't be held. |

Cuz! You are as ever the COOLEST! When I first posted yesterday, I wrote here about you -- the other, even more influential PW. Then for some reason the post didn't stick. But for the record, Cousin Paul is the one who introduced me to the Replacements, as to so much other cool stuff! (We won't even mention Hawkwind here....) Where'd you get a Westerberg t-shirt? Stereo/Mono? |

Yup -- Stereo/Mono tour -- one of the best shows I've ever seen. Paulie has finally grown up (the other one, I mean!) |

I used to listed to PLEASED TO MEET ME obsessively back in the late eighties, especially "Alex Chilton", "Ledge", "Can't Hardly Wait".... There were some tunes from TIM I might have liked better, such as "Waitress in the Sky", "Bastards of Young" and "Left of the Dial", and maybe a couple from LET IT BE, but I still consider PLEASED TO MEET ME the best Replacements album of all. |

Hey, Gabriel! Yeah, PLEASED TO MEET ME seems to invite obsessive relistening. I wrote much of my first novel to that album, and recall walking around DC with my Walkman, playing it over and over. It hsan't aged at all. |

Liz; First Glimmer is also my favorite...I have some PW television apprarences on video, and he does a great version of FG on 120 minutes....I also love 'Skyway', and the 'sadder' PW tunes. Have you been to Kathy's Paul Westerberg page? (see my NYC photos there!) by any chance, are you familiar with Tommy Keene? (from the D.C. area, played with Paul in 96'...... just pre-ordered Bibliomancy...looking foward to it! larry |
